The spirit of the place

SokoVerse is meant to feel like the best version of a Tanzanian market: lively, generous, full of people who know their trade and take pride in it.

You can be direct here. You can say a product is poor, a price is high, or a seller let you down. What you cannot do is be cruel, dishonest, or make this an unsafe place for someone else.

Comments and reviews

Write from your own experience. A useful review says what you bought, what happened, and what someone else should know.

• Criticise the product or the service, not the person.
• Do not review your own business, or ask friends and staff to.
• Do not post someone's phone number, address, workplace or photograph without their permission.
• Keep it clean enough that you would say it out loud in the shop.
• Kiswahili or English, both welcome. Write however you speak.

What has no place here

Some things end a conversation rather than continue it, and we remove them without waiting to be asked twice.

• Harassment, threats, or following someone across the platform to attack them.
• Hate directed at anyone's tribe, religion, gender, disability, or where they come from.
• Sexual content, and anything at all that sexualises or endangers a child.
• Scams, fake giveaways, phishing links, and requests for PINs or passwords.
• Spam: the same message posted everywhere, or comments that exist only to advertise.
• Impersonating another business, another person, or SokoVerse itself.

Reporting

Every listing, comment and business has a report button. Tell us what you saw and where. Reports are private — the person you report is not told who reported them.

Reporting something because you disagree with it, or to damage a competitor, is itself a breach of these guidelines.

What happens when rules are broken

Most of the time we remove the content and explain why. Repeated breaches limit how far an account's posts travel, then suspend it, then close it.

Anything involving a child's safety, a credible threat of violence, or a crime is acted on immediately and may be referred to the authorities.
